As a native Nashvillian, I have always been a big fan of Steeplechase and have spent many a Saturday there back when I had my own tailgating spot… oh the good old days! The last time we went [see recap here] we were engaged with no babies, I had way short blonde hair, and it was a yearly tradition I counted down to each and every year… you could just say the planning started early 😉
We might have grown up a bit, but I am going to find a way to make it to Steeplechase again very soon, though this year we’ll be at the beach so we will be missing the festivities.
Today I’m here, joining my friends with The Iroquois Steeplechase to give my best advice for outfit inspiration and to host a giveaway for you to win two armbands to attend this year’s event on Saturday, May 14th.
First things first, what’s this event all about?
More than 25,000 spectators venture to Percy Warner Park the second Saturday of each May to take in this time-honored tradition of Tennessee hospitality, southern fashions, and horse racing. This year marks the 75th running of the horses and more than $10 million dollars has been raised thus far to benefit the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, so proceeds go to an amazing organization that has impacted the lives of so many families throughout the years.
OK… this sounds like fun. What do I wear?
Think a fun patterned, colorful spring-time dress, topped with a hat… the bigger the better! It’s all about putting on your southern best, including, but not limited to seersucker, bright patterns, fascinators, and any and all colorful statement accessories you want to include. And be sure to wear wedges to avoid sinking into the ground and flats for late afternoon walking!

And of course, I had to top this look off with a bright pink fascinator full of flair… we only get a few chances to get to play derby dress-up so this pairs perfectly!

Of course I saved the best for last… this pale pink dress screams derby time! It’s form-fitting with the utmost in feminine style and when paired with this gorgeous hat, it’s a match made in heaven… yes, this is what it’s all about my friends. This is giving me Steeplechase fever!
