Last year, I threw out the normal New Year’s Resolution lists and opted for ONE, SINGLE word to live by instead. For 2019, that word was INVEST. I wanted to live in the moment more, focus on the positive, volunteer more + complete random acts of kindness on the regular, clean out the clutter and after 365 of walking with that motivation, it felt good to close that chapter + year feeling like I had truly won the battle and completed my list.
Now of course there were setbacks all along my journey–bad days came in and dampened my demeanor, work got in the way and sometimes my living in the moment got pushed to the back burner, but overall, I felt like I truly invested in what matters most in my life, so when I started brainstorming about my 2020 word of the year, I made a short list of things that came to my mind:
My 2020 Word of the Year
SPARK POSITIVITY. For 2020, my desire is to TRULY only say yes to things that make me happy and I’m hoping to continue to share the positive and good that comprise my days. So much negativity surrounds this world–specifically in social media–and I want to combat that on all fronts. Sure not everyday will be ALL good, but there will always be something happy to share and I promise to continue to be a space that promotes the positive and focuses on the fun.
TRAVEL MORE. We traveled SO much last year and though it was filled with craziness, it was amazing to see Jeff and I AND our kids experience some wonderful adventures together. From Disney, Cabo, Charleston, Dallas, San Diego, Italy, Atlanta, Rosemary Beach, Antigua, Raleigh, Orlando and back to home sweet home in Nashville for the holidays, we racked up memories and a ton of frequent flyer miles, too. And yes, we want more of that! This month, I am traveling to 30a for a work trip, and then February I venture to NYC to tackle market with good friends, back home for two days and then we head back to Orlando to visit Disney World + take another cruise for a big Disney collaboration [shhh it’s a secret so no mentioning this to my girls!!] all before finishing up February in Steamboat Springs, Colorado with our friends’ for a big 40th birthday celebration.
SIMPLIFY LIFE. This month’s Organization Challenge goes hand in hand with this motto… I want to simplify areas of my life that need a bit of decluttering. Whether that be how I spend my free time, who I surround myself with, how much random “stuff” we have, it’s time to purge in every way possible and no time is like the present to make that happen.
CREATE + APPRECIATE. I need to insert the praise hands emoji for this sentiment. I want to create MEANINGFUL content that resonates with my followers. Last year, I missed the mark on this and had some time to reflect on that during my time off through the holidays. Case in point: I’m excited about Instagram “likes” getting eliminated, because that way I’m not stressing about a certain time of day to post… who the heck cares. I want to create more of what I love: fun fashion, food and cocktail recipes to share, more travel + vacay getaways… yoi get the point! And with that comes appreciation–I want to show more appreciation to YOU–more giveaways, more random Starbucks gift cards… without you none of this would be possible and I promise I don’t take it lightly that you choose to spend a few minutes of your day with me.
So, for me, all of these things tie back to one word and my word for 2020 is:
JOY in every facet of my life… in the mundane days that are worth celebrating, in the milestone moments where you reach your goal and everything in between. 2019: thank you SO much for the lessons. 2020: let’s do this!!
I would absolutely LOVE to see your New Year’s Resolutions and/or word of the year… leave me a comment with what you’re planning for 2020 and if you have your own 2020 word of the year. OXOX
It’s really been on my heart to “slow down” in 2020! I have said no to some very big things that my family normally is a part of, but I am already feeling better about 2020 and knowing I might actually have control of the calendar instead of being ruled by it. By saying no, it has opened up more time with family and enjoying the small things. Happy New Year!
