Just when we thought we were in the clear… mother nature goes and throws us a MAJOR curveball. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, it’s going to be a CRAZY weekend of weather around these parts and as much as I love some snow and sledding time with the kids, I am NOT a fan of ice and super cold temperatures = warm weather is more certainly my jam as of late. I saw a reel on Instagram that said if the temperature is smaller than my age, I don’t want any part of that and I feel that in my bones immensely!
But, just as anything in life, we will make the very best of the situation… I’ve stocked our fridge and pantry with all the essentials [and maybe some treats, too], I’ve ordered a few new puzzles + games to occupy us if and when we get bored and I’ve got some backup plans on how to survive heaven forbid we lose power and don’t have access to our devices. At the end of the day, we’ve got a house over our heads, heat + blankets to keep us warm and plenty of food so I’m not that worried… I know others don’t have those luxuries so we will think about the good rather than the bad and hope this weather system moves through fast.

But before we hunker down, I thought I’d hop on, give some of my best advice for surviving the impending weather without everyone going crazy on one another [ohhh joy with all of that quality time together!!] and list out some of our family’s go-to time occupiers when your best laid plans have to change:
For braving the cold when I do have to leave the house, this is the kind of outfit I reach for every single time—comfortable, layered and still feels put together without trying too hard. I started with my trusty Colette Wide-Leg Jeans [the perfect amount of structure without feeling stiff, wearing size 24/run TTS], added a soft Cashmere Mock Neck Sweater [wearing XS, runs TTS] that says ‘Alpine Club’ for that extra warmth factor, and topped it all off with a Sherpa-Lined Puffer [on major sale, wearing XXS] that basically feels like wearing a blanket. Sneakers are a non-negotiable for icy sidewalks and quick errands, and these have been on heavy rotation lately because they’re cute and functional. Finally, I finished it off with this icy blue, cutie crossbody that keeps my hands free for coffee, keys, or wrangling all the things—because winter weather is already doing the most, and my outfit doesn’t need to.

And if you’re staring down a long stretch of being homebound and wondering how on earth to fill the time without everyone climbing the walls, I pulled together a little winter storm to-do list to keep things simple and low-pressure. Think magical everyday moments you’ve been wanting to relish, easy wins where everyone is happy, and activities that don’t require a ton of prep or perfection. Pick one, pick a few, or honestly… pick none at all. This is your permission slip to slow down, lean into the season, and make the most of being home = however that looks for you!! And stay safe out there friends 😉 OXOX.
