Welcome back!! I’m touching in but just for a minute or two to let you know that I finished my goal of reading 12 books in a year = not too major or newsworthy, but for me, not too shabby considering I usually fall asleep the moment my head hits my pillow each night. Reading totally helps me unwind before bed… I put the cell phone away, turn off the television and read for 20-30 minutes. Checking in with the last six I read in 2022 with my rating for each:
July. This Time Tomorrow | 7/10
Get your tissues out. This one got me with its emotional nature of a daughter and her father’s declining health and what she would do if she could live her life all over again, all by experiencing her youth and previous ages again… definitely something that’ll make you question how you’re living and what you want to check off your list.
August. Daisy Jones and the Six | 10/10
Hands down the best book I read the second part of the year, my recent favorite author crush, Taylor Jenkins Reid, did it again with this one. This read follows a 1970s rock band and how they rise to fame, all while following the bandmates lives and the intricacy of their relationships… absolutely LOVED it!
September. Greenlights | 8/10
An autobiography from Matthew McConaughey… alright alright alright! I chose to read the hardback book, though I’ve been told the audible version of him reading it is incredible as well. This one was an easy read with lots of life lessons, funny family jokes, and the path to his fame that all began on accident.
October: Meant to Be | 8/10
I’ve been an avid Emily Giffin fan for years and this latest debut doesn’t disappoint. American family royalty meets a girl that doesn’t come from the best background… it’s sweet and a total romantic comedy kind of read that you’ll whisk right through, all while asking the question if love is truly meant to be?
November: Luckiest Girl Alive | 7/10
I wanted to read this one before the Netflix movie debuted in November and I am really glad I chose the book first, as I wasn’t a huge fan of the film. This one is incredibly dark, so be sure to know that going into this one. It follows a girl named Ani, on the brink of getting married, and her wanting to come forward to tell her story about an incident she experienced during high school. Definitely a page turner if you like the suspense/thriller books.
December: November 9th | 9/10
Colleen Hoover does it again! I’m a huge fan of her work and I’ve loved everything I’ve read from hers. This follows two teenagers who meet by accident at a diner. They instantly connect and make an agreement to meet up every year on November 9th to see if their “love” can last. A total quick read if you’re heading somewhere on vacation!
The Book I Didn’t Finish
Rarely does it happen when I begin a book and not finish, but that happened to be back in October. I started reading Untamed by Glennon Doyle and got about 100 pages in before I called it quits. For me, it was interesting at first, but all in all, I just didn’t like the message for myself and how it was being presented. I can see why tons of people have enjoyed this one, but I felt as though my time was better spent elsewhere and on other topics I find more relatable.
So, what comes next?? I am going to make a stretch goal to do 15-20 books in 2023. More reading, less television and technology and I think that’s one I can totally accomplish as long as I stay the course and don’t get sucked into Bravo nearly as much. So shoot me ANY and ALL recommendations so I can add them to my list!
