After an unforgettable adventure with the Avara team two weeks ago, I’m still dreaming about our trip to Stowe, Vermont! It was my very first time to visit this charming mountain town that gave us the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure, and trust me, it was the ultimate fall escape.
From a scenic downtown that looks like it came straight out of a Hallmark movie to cozy nights by the fire with my girlfriends, every moment was pure magic, and the crisp [soon to be] autumn air just made it all that much better. So, if you’ve been itching to plan a trip up north with your besties and/or you’re looking for a picture-perfect couple’s only getaway, keep reading for all the highlights from this cute corner of New England!
Get ready for plenty of sweater weather, foliage for days, and a peek into how we spent our days soaking up the Vermont vibes!
where to stay
Staying at the newly opened AWOL Stowe felt like being in our own little forest hideaway… where modern vibes met rustic charm!! Each room offered stunning views and cozy spots to unwind after a day of Vermont adventures and I love how each room had a separate living area with a comfy couch for the ultimate in relaxation. After a day of exploring, we’d gather around the bonfire, swapping stories with a hot drink in hand—seriously, it was a perfect way to wind down. And the onsite cocktail lounge for happy hour? Let’s just say, whether it was a seasonal cocktail or a shared snack, everything hit the spot and kept the vibe intimate and relaxing! P.S. the breakfast every morning was INCREDIBLE… locally made quiches + bread with fresh fruit and all the coffee one could consume = heaven on earth!
what to do
Stowe turned out to be the perfect mix of cozy and adventurous during our trip. Whether you’re up for scenic mountain views or indulging in local treats, there’s no shortage of fun things to do! We balanced exploring the quaint downtown area with taking in Vermont’s iconic attractions, making every day feel like a new adventure…P.S. I learned a new hobby called “leaf peeping” which is what travelers do during the fall when they visit a specific spot to take in all the fall foliage.
Wandering Main Street in Downtown Stowe | Our first stop was to downtown Stowe where we spent a relaxed afternoon walking along Main Street. The colorful, historic buildings house the cutest boutiques, art galleries, and cozy cafes. It was the perfect spot to slow down, grab a coffee, and pop into a few local shops for unique finds = aka the best in souvenir shopping for Caroline and Carson, too!
Stowe Mountain Resort + Gondola Skyride | One of the most breathtaking experiences was riding the Gondola Skyride up to the top of Mount Mansfield. As we soared to the summit, the panoramic views of Vermont’s lush green forests and rolling mountains were unforgettable and it felt great just to take a deep breath and soak it all in. Whether you’re up for a hike at the top or just want to sit and enjoy the views, the ride itself is a must-do.
Ben & Jerry’s Factory Tour | No trip to Vermont would be complete without stopping by the famous Ben & Jerry’s factory in Waterbury! We took a fun and informative tour [just about 20-30 minutes in total] to see how all their iconic flavors are made, and of course, the best part at the end = samples! Learning about the brand’s quirky history and trying fresh ice cream right from the source was definitely a highlight and great for all ages. P.S. they have dairy free options too!!
Cold Hollow Cider Mill Tour | For a taste of local tradition, we visited Cold Hollow Cider Mill. Watching fresh cider being pressed on their century-old equipment was like stepping back in time. And let me tell you… the warm cider donuts were out-of-this-world delicious! The mill has such a cozy vibe, making it the perfect fall stop to soak up the flavors of Vermont. And they have an entire storefront FULL of yummy sauces, syrups, mixes and more so save room in your suitcase for everything you want to bring home!
where to eat
You know the best part of travel??? All the local eats!!! If you’re heading to Stowe and craving a variety of restaurant experiences, there are some must-visit spots you’ll want to check out that we all LOVED…
Idletyme Brewing Company | A local gem known for its craft beers and laid-back atmosphere… whether you’re indulging in their famous beer cheese soup or sharing a wood-fired pizza with friends, it’s the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring. Plus, with its outdoor seating and fire pits, the cozy vibes are unbeatable. [P.S. their burgers are FAB]
Après Only | For something a little more refined, Après Only is a trendy après-ski bar that has a nostalgic vibe, taking you back to 80s Vermont ski culture. They’ve got an incredible selection of curated snacks and cocktails [don’t miss their charcuterie boards] in a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. You’ll want to get here early and take it easy… the vibe is incredible!
The Matterhorn | Another crowd favorite, a riverside restaurant offering everything from sushi to pizza in a laid-back setting. Whether you’re grabbing a bite after a long day or just enjoying live music with friends, The Matterhorn’s famous sushi rolls and wood-fired pizzas are not to be missed!!
Café on Main | This is the go-to for an amazing breakfast or lunch. Located right in the heart of Stowe, this cute café offers homemade pastries, sandwiches, and Vermont-roasted coffee. It’s the ideal spot to kick-start your morning or grab a quick bite before hitting the trails
Ready to check out Stowe for yourself and see what all the fall fuss is about?? As always, I’ve created a handy travel guide with some of the best of the best from this autumn adventure and a few other options that came highliy recommended by the locals, too:
