{These Are My Confessions}

Uncategorized

November 20, 2009

For 2 years, I have been dying wanted  to run in the Country Music Marathon, but thanks to 2 of my good friends, I was able to skip out on the tortureous activity and attend their fun-filled weddings instead… in 2010, I no longer have the ability to “cop-out” on my wish–therefore–I am announcing now {to keep myself honest and hold myself accountable} that I will be running the Nashville 1/2 marathon on April 24, 2010.
Questions you {and I} may potentially ask as to why I am going to purposely harass my body:
1. Have you ever run in a race before? Technically no, but I race against myself at the gym 3 to 4 times every week =)
2. Why would you want to torture yourself like that?
You know how we all have those lists of the “30 Things I Want To Do Before I Turn 30?” Well, this has been at the top of my list {as well as traveling to Italy- Jeff get on that please!} so I figure at 26, there is no time like the present–plus, my body is only going to get worse so I need to get this checked off sooner rather than later
I know lots of people, both friends and co-workers, who participate in the 1/2 or full marathon every year, and rave about how much fun it is. After some thorough investigation, they have concerts all along the race path, cheerleaders giving support to keep you motivated, food at the finish line {need I say more}, and once I finish, I’ll get the coveted race medal and t-shirt, which yes, I will wear all the time to prove that I completed the course!
So for the next few months, I will be whipping my body into better shape and spending lots of quality time at my local YMCA to prepare for the big race… the normal ramp-up time to get ready for a 1/2 marathon, but I want to give myself a little extra time!
I’m even hoping I can have my friends and family join in in the fun and be there at the finish line to watch me–Interestingly enough, I’ve had one of my friends say she’ll drink 1 beer for each mile I run, but I doubt she’ll make it to see me finish- haha!
P.S. If you have any great race tips/blogs, be sure to send them my way– I need all the help I can get! And be sure to keep on me about my workouts and training… I need support!

Just started reading your blog a few days ago! It's adorable…LOVE how you have it all decked out for the Holidays already. Trust me my iTunes has been playing Christmas classics since November 1st!

I REALLY want to run a half marathon too. I have started training (with my hound as my partner) but haven't found any ones around where I live that look like fun. Too bad I don't live in Nashville..that one looks like an amazing time! Good luck!

  2. Lindsey says:

I ran my first half marathon this past June – the Seattle Rock 'n Roll half (it sounds like it's put on by the same company). It was on my list to do before I'm 30 too, and I'm so glad I did it! It was definitely hard but the feeling you get when it's all done with is just amazing. The best advice I can give is to invest in some good running shoes (Asics and Brooks were recommended to me) and padded running socks too (not cotton). Good luck and let me know if you need any tips!

Also, I love your blog's Christmas background and music!!!

  3. Caroline says:

You are so brave to do this!!! How exciting?!

  4. Taylor says:

This is so cute! Im so glad I came across it…not to mention my all time favorite Christmas song was playing on your blog!

  5. Yay! Good for you! You are going to love it and become addicted like I did! The 1/2 marathon is a great distance and races are super fun and motivating and Nashville sounds like a great one! Best of luck in training…can't wait to hear your progress.

  6. Marian says:

Good Luck!! I've been told that the Nashville 1/2 is GREAT!! I had a friend do it last year and he loved it. Good luck. I'm sure it'll be easy peasy

  7. Jen says:

Just found your blog – it's so cute! You have a new follower 🙂

  8. Angela says:

I signed up for the Rock and Roll 1/2 marathon in Virginia Beach this year! I would rather do country music, but I won't be ready by April. You rock! I am excited to follow your training and cheer you on!
