The Things We Love to Hate

Uncategorized

April 14, 2010

In this crazy little game of life, it is sometimes easy for me to get distracted with the mundane tasks that never seem to end and have seemingly taken over my life recently… I’m talking about these horrid chores:
from agonizing over a clean house
to attacking a huge pile of this
 to doing these and putting them away {almost everyday}
When does it ever stop?? I can’t seem to get ahead and I am normally the most organized person… I think I need a chore board or something so Jeff and I are each assigned tasks to take over–I can’t do it all on my own and I’m starting to get overwhelmed again—-ahhhhhhhh! Am I alone in my thinking, or how do each of you do it all and still have time for yourself??

  1. It's definitely not easy! When do you find the time to have fun or veg out? I can't remember who said it or where I heard it but they say a clean house is a sign of a wasted life. Don't agonize so much over having a spotless house. Get out there and have fun and set aside one day a week for cleaning. 🙂

You're definitely not alone! I've been so overwhelmed with wedding planning, work, school, organizing things, pre packing/getting ready to move, hosting a baby shower soon… the list goes on and on! The key is to stay organized! I have started putting together a small notebook with calendars, to-do lists, etc. Here are the ones I've started..
    – Fiances (bills due, paid, overall budget for things such as our wedding, etc.)
    – Recipes (Things I find online or in magazines all catagorized)
    – Fitness (workout goals, tips, nutrition info.)

I'm in the process of also making a housekeeping folder to store a daily/weekly/monthly to do list, a checklist of all things that need to get done in the house to keep me organized, etc.

It's important to know that we can't do it all sometimes… find easier ways of doing things and what works best for you! 🙂

p.s. I totally thought I put FINANCES instead of fiances! haha wedding brain!!

  4. LG says:

WHERE did you get that chore chart? I love it and need one stat! Before I stopped working, we did share chores adn because neither of us were ever home the house stayed pretty clean, but since i stopped working i do ALL the chores and i have lists to keep things organized and stuff. You will egt used to it but a house requires alot more work than an apartment, especially a house with a man, so teach him good habits now!

  5. Manda says:

I totally getting where you're coming from, I do ALL the chores around our house! Hubby does noting, he can't even put his towel in the hamper!

It's the only thing that I can fault my mother-in-law for, she SPOILED her boys, did everything for them.

  6. Marian says:

Seriously, that thought has been running through my head the last few months. How do people have their lives so put together (even though it may just be on the outside). I'm a hot mess. There is not enough time in the day to not only do my own work, but house work, work out AND plan a wedding. I can't stay above water, but I sure am trying. One of these days I'll learn how to balance it all, right??

  7. Juliana says:

It is not easy at all. I LOVE to clean, but I am doing it constantly and since I became a mom I don't know how I even pee in peace. Ha! I guess it is just being a woman and making it work because we are incredible beings and we can conquer the world. With that said, we need to remember not to take on too much—that cleaning can wait, but living our lives cannot. So, mix it up! Hard work and play or at least rock to some great tunes while cleaning (which is a great workout too!)

  8. Amber says:

I'm with you. I vent about the frustrations of house work every Tuesday on my blog. I think it's just about finding the balance – but sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day. I ask my husband to help often and he's usually great about it. You'll get everything back on track soon!

  9. WestSacHoney says:

Ugh cleaning.. I do dishes daily normally I'll put them away early in the morning and start the load if it's full so I can empty the rest at night. Laundry day is Sundays or Saturdays depending on the schedule. Vacuuming is normally on Thursdays or Fridays before people come over or when I see dog hair everywhere. Everything else I do it when it looks dirty. I dusted last weekend because it looked Dusty. I wipe the walls when they are dirty which should be in about a week. It's alot of work owning a house.. And I don't even have a backyard to maintain yet just a front yard with weeds to pull.

  10. Little Spoon says:

Oh, I feel your pain! The one thing that seems to work for me is splitting the chores up into different weekends on one day. I.e. laundry every other weekend, upstairs one weekend, downstairs one weekend. Then washing and putting dishes away a few times a week seems less intimidating if I know that I only have to dust downstairs once a month.

  11. melissa says:

Oh girl, we all struggle with that. I try to do a little bit of cleaning every day so that I don't have to ruin a whole day cleaning house. And I definitely have my husband help – it's immediately half the work!

But, to be honest, I do have someone come out about every 3-4 months. It's nice to have the house scrubbed from top to bottom by someone other than me and it makes it easier to keep clean inbetween. It's a nice treat and not as expensive as you'd think. Maybe a good present to yourself while you're dealing with pre-wedding stress? 🙂

  12. Julianne says:

It's definitely tons of work! We try to keep on top of the dishes every night, because while I can leave some things a mess, the kitchen is not one of them. It just ups my stress factor to have a messy kitchen so we keep it clean at all times. I do one big clean that takes a few hours on the weekend, and assign the SO tasks to do until he gets grumpy and I let him quit! LOL If I move fast enough, I can usually get him to help me with about half of it, and like others have mentioned, it really helps!

We have the same issues! For a while we had it down to where I would do the cooking and my boyfriend was in charge of cleaning up/doing the dishes. However, I often find myself doing all of the above, ha!
