I’m Back!

Uncategorized

May 4, 2010

Wow–I was gone a little more than a week and you can’t even begin to imagine what all has transpired during my little vacation. Not only did I complete my first 1/2 marathon {another post to come on that}, but more importantly–my poor hometown city underwent quite a devastating flood…not to mention our downstairs had a good amount of damage due to the rain and we’re still trying to get everything back to the way it was.
I just want to call your attention to what has happened in Music City–I still believe that because of the national media’s failure to notice this horrific incident, many people are unaware just how devastated Nashville is due to this unforseen catastrophe.
How can you help?? Clear Channel, a radio media business, has joined forces with local radio stations to promote a way for people to donate money to the cause… it’s called “Giving Matters” and you can donate here to help the hundreds of people who have lost due to the flood. We can all do our part whether it’s by volunteering, sending food and money, and praying for those who have been affected.
And for my friends and family who jumped in to help us and offered not only their time, but kind words and prayers, Jeff and I really appreciate it.. our downstairs is going to be OK. Thankfully, we were able to save our new furniture and are spending our nights now trying to dry out the damage that was done to the wall moldings and floors. It really makes you stop and think how grateful we are–some lost everything and if this is all we’re having to overcome, God was good to us and I can promise Him I will be helping others who were far less fortunate. OXOX
  1. Oh wow!!! I had heard of the flooding but that is just terrible!!! I'll definitely be praying for everyone that was affected. So sorry about your downstairs!!

  2. Good luck and stay dry! I'll be thinking about y'all!

  3. Brittany says:

Glad to have you been! And congrats on doing the 1/2 marathon 🙂

Wow, the flooding is just unbelievable and terrible! You're right, I don't believe the news is doing enough to cover this huge story. I'm glad your house is going to be OK! My prayers are surely with everyone going through this devastating time.

  4. Kickin' Kari says:

I was wondering the past few days how things were going for you and your family! I'm glad to hear that the damage is repairable. 🙂

Congrats on your 1/2 marathon. I am starting my training for a half marathon in January! My first one!

Take care, Praying and thinking of and the whole area that was affected!

  5. Nicole-Lynn says:

I was wondering about you! Glad you're ok! Continuing to pray for others in your area!

  6. Marian says:

Sending lots of love and prayers your way!! I completely agree, there is not nearly enough coverage on this catastrophe!! Stay dry

  7. Sole Matters says:

im glad that most of your stuff is okay!! ive been thru two major floods in '94 and '94 in south GA. luckily my house wasnt damaged at all, but a lot of friends/family got flooded twice, so i know the devistation first hand. xoxo

  8. Sorry to hear about your house, girl. Thanks for bringing attention to this horrible situation. People around the country don't understand JUST how bad it is.

  9. Good job on the marathon I was wondering what happened to you but then remembered about the floods and hoped you were okay. Glad to hear your safe and yes the media hasn't done enough coverage on this. Thinking of you

  10. I am so shocked by all the flooding and devastated families. It is just horrible … Glad you are okay babe and your house wasn't floating down the river. So frightening! Sending prayers your way!

  11. Caroline says:

Sending prayers for you guys and everyone affected by the flood. Some of our roads are still bad and several hundreds of people in the Memphis area received damage. Glad your new furniture is salvageable. Congrats on the 1/2 marathon!!

  12. Brittany says:

Nashville is so awful. And I too am shocked at how the media (only local) have not been covering this horrific event.

I'm glad ya'll made it back safely and did not sustain major damage.

Hopefully the waters will start receding so clean up can begin. I think the Cumberland has finally crested here in Clarksville.

  13. Julianne says:

So sorry to hear your house sustained some damage. I was fairly lucky in my area and it didn't get to my house or car, as I know it did to many others. Here's hoping Nashville can band together and get all of this mess cleaned up soon. My prayers are with you and all of the familys who lost even more!

  14. First of all, congrats on your half! I can't wait to read all about it. I hate to hear that you guys are dealing with the mess and that there was some damage but I'm so glad to hear that you both as ok. Hang in there. This is crazy isn't it? I am in East Nashville and when I drive over the bridge, I almost cry when I see what's happened.

  15. Ashley says:

I'm so glad to hear from you! I've been anxiously waiting for your first post post-flood, and while I'm sorry you have to deal with any clean-up at all, I'm so thankful you didn't lose everything. Love and hugs from the East side of the state.

  16. Sarah Mina says:

My parents just had the SAME thing happen to the first level of their house, but it was because the water line to their refrigerator malfunctioned and they were out of town when it happened.

Basically, their whole house was filling up with water. Their non-tile floors and baseboards were messed up, too. I hope everything turns out ok!

And you are right, I hadn't even heard of the flood!

  17. Amber says:

I'm so glad to hear you're okay. I've been thinking about you and praying for you and your city. It's such a tragedy. Keeping you in my prayers!

  18. Oh goodness!!! I'll be totally honest, I had NO idea it was that bad!!! I'm shocked this hasn't been on the news like crazy?!

Sorry to hear about your damage, but glad it's all repairable (and hoping it doesn't cost a small fortune).

Praying for everyone in that area…….I simply can't imagine.
