Bachelorette in the Big City

wedding festivities

May 10, 2011

I’m just sitting here smiling thinking about just how much fun we had this weekend…my best friends went above and beyond for our adventure in Chicago and I know I felt very lucky {and loved} this entire weekend celebrating my last days as a “single lady”.
Here’s the official {and very detailed} recap:
Friday morning, we got up BEFORE the crack of dawn to make it to the airport for our flight. Thanks to the boys, they transported our luggage as well as 2 full cars of ladies and we were on our way.

Once we arrived in Chicago, we took the train to our hotel which was hilarious in itself. To put it nicely, we stood out quite a bit…loud southern girls with pretty prominent accents wheeling around huge bags up and down flights of stairs…oh lordy! Someone should’ve been taping us for sure. We checked into our swankly downtown hotel–Hotel 71– and then headed out to explore.
“this train is going right through town” 😉
our fun little surprises {cubs shirts for us all to wear!} and goodie bags

Our first stop was to venture over to Millennium Park to see the infamous Bean!! WOW, it is HUGE and such a fun piece of architecture in the middle of the city. Gorgeous scenery and surroundings and we just couldn’t get over the endless amounts of flowers lining the streets. We had our first photo opp and definitely took advantage.

 tulips everywhere!!

Afterwards, we walked to our next destination, Giordanos, the uber famos deep dish pizza place. One word-AMAZING!! Best pizza I have ever eaten and I think we’re going to have to schedule a Nashville delivery just so Jeff can taste this goodness, too!

The rest of our afternoon was spent shopping all up and down Michigan Avenue and we were definitely successful. Just made me realize we most certainly need an H&M here in Music City PLEASE!!
Friday evening, we got all dressed up, hopped in the cabs, and headed to Quartino for dinner, an authentic Italian tapas restaurant. Very trendy, loud {which I love}, and fun for groups–this place was great, the sangria went down extremely easily–haha, and we spent hours there sipping and indulging in homemade yummyness. Cheers to a fantastic waiter and espresso shots to keep me buzzing and lively. Our next stop for the evening was to a FUN champagne bar called Pops. Meg had reserved a spot for our group with loads of bubbly and chocolate covered strawberries…this could’ve been my favorite place of the entire weekend! Finally, we ended up dancing the night away at Lasalle Power Company. We made friends with another bachelor party group from NYC and just really let loose!

Saturday morning started off with bagels and fruit for breakfast with lots of coffee, and then we got ready to head to Wrigleyville for the baseball game. I have always wanted to go see the Cubs play in Wrigly Field and was able to cross off an item on my bucket list this weekend, too!! We took the train, started off the adult beverages at Cubby Bear, and then found our amazing seats…although our seating didn’t last long as we knew we needed Game Day Goodies!! Hot dogs, pretzel cheese bites, Cracker Jacks, and whiskey and cokes made for a wonderful game day celebration not to mention the Cubs pulled out a victory against the Reds so everyone was going crazy! This is an outing I won’t soon forget.

 Wrigley Field–WOO HOO!!

After the game, we headed to Rockit Bar to watch the KY derby and enjoy more afternoon cocktails. Not only were we having fun, but then we spotted our reality TV celebrity and just had to get a group picture with Ed from Jillian’s season of The Bachelorette. Yes, he was WAY hotter in person and very nice, too–this made a lot of our days–woop woop! Before we left Wrigleyville, we stocked up on souvenirs and then went back to the hotel to relax before the big Saturday night bash.
blurry, but it still counts!! we were def star struck

Our evening began with our typical shower…for lingerie!! We played games, sipped on mojitos, and got to opening presents. Meg planned some fun games and had Jeff’s input and I can say I did really well…he’s going to be happy on our honeymoon because my girlfriends spoiled me silly!

We then took cabs to Zocalo for upscale mexican for dinner…another fun stop with great food and even better company. Not to mention my friends were sneaky and surprised me that night with custom Sparkles cupcakes–hands down the best cupcakes ever. Strawberry cake with strawberry icing and adorable rings on the top…key to my heart! After dinner, we arrived at The Underground, a really trendy and celeb stalking bar. We had a few cocktails there and then decided to venture to another destination to meet up with our new found friends. Suffice to say that Mother’s wasn’t on our “approved list of bars” that Meg had created, but we had a BALL–we had photoshoots with the arch of balloons, giggled our way throughout the bar, and just laughed repeatedly…this will be a memory none of us could EVER escape! Finally, we ended the night on the dance floor at Elm Street Liquors dance club. SO MUCH FUN! We took over on the dance floor and acted a fool just like we always do.

love these ladies!!
 dance party!!
me and the guy i had the dance off with–oops!!

Sunday morning we ate a quick bite for brunch and then headed to the airport to venture home. Thankfully our boys were there to welcome us back with open arms and hear all about our incredible girls’ weekend.
From the bottom of my heart, this trip was one of the most fun times I have ever had with my best friends. It meant the world to me that they took time out of their extremely busy lives to celebrate with me and I know we’ll be telling stories about our adventure for years to come. And most importantly, thanks to my BFF/MOH Meg. I know you worked so very hard to make this weekend fun and words can’t express just how perfect it was. I am extremely blessed to have a best friend who wanted to make this truly memorable, not only for me, but for everyone that came. I love you girls more than you know–hugs and kisses!
