Five on Friday: Everyday Makeup Edition

Uncategorized

January 10, 2014

I’m going to start doing a new feature every few weeks or so when it comes to Five on Fridays…I want to start offering tips, tricks, my favorites, and such for a variety of topics and this week I am sharing my five favorite everyday makeup necessities.
Like I mentioned, this is for everyday wear: not including the goodies I make sure to apply when I’ve got a fun night out or need my makeup to stay on all day (hello Smashbox photo finish primer), but these are the tried and true goodies I slather on when I am running out of the house…

everyday makeup
I wish I had enough disposable money to buy all the beauty items I see out there on websites and other blogs, but let’s face it, money doesn’t grow on trees and I have to be careful with what I spend. I think I am a bit “cheap” when it comes to beauty essentials because spending $100 on some eye cream sounds CRAZY to me…to each his own though! Honestly, I have found that drugstore brands sometimes (and yes I said sometimes) work better than the pricier options on the market. And no, this is not a sponsored post, these are items you’ll find in my drawers right now:
1. ELF BB Cream: easy to apply; good coverage for everyday errands/activities; gives a bit of color with the benefit of a moisturizer with SPF to prevent sun damage; price of $6 can’t be beat either
2. Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Lip Gloss: gives a bit of color; goes on easily; all natural
3. Rimmel Scandaleyes Mascara: I’ve tried SO many mascaras out there and this one is my favorite for everyday war (They’re Real is the best, but too pricey for daily option for me); lengthens with no clumps and doesn’t run or wear off
4. Cover Girl Invisible Concealer: let’s face it, I use a lot of concealer these days; hello two under two with hardly any sleep…catch my drift?? this is light enough so it doesn’t look like spackle, but still hides the darkness and spots
5. NYX Stick Blush: stays on longer than traditional powder blush; gives a fresh, dewy glow to cheeks

What are some of your favorite everyday beauty items??? I’m always on the hunt for new, must-try favorites! That’s all for today lovelies…you know the drill for our Five on Friday link-up. Post away to your heart’s content and link up below 🙂 Have a GREAT weekend!

That's my favorite drugstore mascara too! I love it! One of my current favorites is Burt's Bee's tinted lip balm- it goes on like chap stick but with a little color to it and makes this Momma feel a little more put together!

  2. I am really excited that you shared the Elf BB cream. I love BB cream, but have had a hard time finding one that I really like. I'm going to try this as soon as the one in my makeup bag runs out!

  3. rachel says:

Love this! I am in desperate need of a good concealer!!! Have tried some high end ones that failed royally. Excited to try yours. Cheers to the weekend friend!

  4. {Jessica} says:

I've never tried a BB cream, but am now considering it – especially with how reasonably priced that Elf one is. Your Covergirl concealer sounds like it is working well for you, but it you ever decide to change it up, I've heard WONDERFUL things about Maybelline Dream Lumi concealer. It has good coverage but is also a brightener, so it's supposed to really help with dark circles and spots, etc. It's less than $7 at Walmart, so it's another beauty item I will be snagging soon (like today, lol!)

  5. I just love this theme! Right now my top five "can't leave the house without 'em" products would be: L'Oreal BB cream, L'Oreal Bare Naturale powder foundation, Benetint on my cheeks and lips, the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough As Taupe eyeshadow, and Benefit's They're Real mascara. I like a good high-low mix and I think L'Oreal can do no wrong! (their liquid liner is also a total fave of mine)

  6. Amy says:

I love new beauty suggestions and these are some good ones. I love the NYX brand and just bought their primer for redness, their HD concealers, and their matte setting spray and ALL are UHMAZING. I used them everyday because they're so easy to apply and you don't need a ton of any of the products to make your makeup last all day.

  7. Jodi says:

What do you use for under-eye cream. I'm trying to find a good one. May have to try that BB cream for that price!

  8. Sarah says:

I laughed when I read this, because I have almost all of those in my daily routine, also. I'm going to have to give that blush a try!

  9. I'm looking for a new blush to use and I've never used a stick, or roll-on one before. Thanks for the recommendations!

  10. Ooh! I have been needing a blush (I'm a bronzer-aholic!) so, I might have to track that one down! Happy Friday to you!!

  11. Sara says:

I might have to give that elf BB cream a try!
I love good drugstore finds 🙂

  12. I have got to try the ELF BB cream. I use so many ELF products but have to try this one! On my Target list!

  13. I'm actually trying to venture out and try new things on my face…that's a big step for me being one of those plain jane girls, so thanks for these 5 goodies! I always try out "word of mouth" referrals when it comes to stuff like this 🙂 by the way, thanks for helping host, I'm excited to be following along now! Come say hi if you get a chance…I really do love making new blogging buddies!

  14. I've definitely have a mix of drugstore and high end makeup! I posted a new favorite of mine on my Five this week too – Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains. Have a great weekend! 🙂

  15. Julie Joy says:

Thanks for sharing these goodies! I'm going to have to try that cover girl conceler! I just bought my first tube a couple weeks ago and I went to Ulta… holy $29 for an itty bitty tube! I don't think I can splurge on spending that much again! But I do love using conceler so I think I'll try your recommendation next! One of my beauty must haves is dry shampoo! I use the suave brand or Rock a holic! I only wash my hair a couple days a week so the in between days, this is a must! 🙂 Happy weekend!

  16. Lauren Aiken says:

Thank you for sharing some of your favorite inexpensive goodies! I see a lot of really expensive products in the blogosphere that are appealing to me, but I just can't justify spending so much on a cosmetic product. I really want to try out the elf bb cream!

  17. ah!! love ELF. cheap and good!

  18. I'm a Target/drugstore makeup girl all the way! Thanks for the tip on the E.L.F BB cream, I might try that one. I love their eye shadow palettes.

    Thanks for hosting the link-up!

  19. Cherish says:

Love the new theme idea for our Five on Fridays! I've never tried/used any of these, will have to check them out the next time I'm at Target. Which let's be real will probably be tomorrow. ; ) Happy weekend!

  20. Jackie says:

My favorite mascara is maybelline and it works better than any of the mascara's I have bought at Sephora. all $8 of it haha.

Also- I just stumbled upon your blog and realized you live in Nashville! I just moved here about 3 months ago and am still very much adjusting. I could use any and all suggestions haha

  21. I love the ELF moisturizer stick! I have very dry skin in the winter and even though I lather up on moisturizer cream every morning, my forehead and nose still flake. But the moisturizer stick works wonders and is only $3. Plus it is a clear gel that glides on and is not greasy in the slightest bit.

  22. Carroll says:

Thanks for this great list! I'm always looking for great makeup finds that I can pick up at Target or the drugstore, especially when it comes to mascara, so I'll have to look for this Rimmel kind next. 🙂

This is a very useful post. The challenge is having the ability to keep up the frequency of posting and interaction while not exhausting out.
    Thanks for sharing this information.
