five on friday…volume 1: 2014 edition

Uncategorized

January 3, 2014

we’re BACK!!! i totally skipped out on the last five on friday due to sicklings taking over my life, but this week brought a new year, a new perspective, and a new outlook on getting things done. let’s kick 2014 off right:

one. after holiday sales
now is THE BEST time to shop…yes, i know a lot of us are working on the whole budget/saving mentality, but stores are offering incredible savings to stock up for next year, finish out this season, and i found some fun spring/summer staples for less than $10 a piece so i will have some pretties to wear once the season changes. my favorites are loft (save an extra 60% off clearance), jcrew factory (take additional 40% off sale), anthropologie (take extra 25% off sale) and gap (30% off your entire purchase).

two. notes of great cheer
want a fun way to savor the sweet stuff this year?? i found this idea via pinterest and couldn’t wait to share! start with an empty jar (mason ones are the best…hello south) and then fill it with notes about good things that happen…they can be little victories, big accomplishments, sentimental stuff, you get the idea. then, on new years eve, empty it and see what good things came your way that year. easy, free, and a fun way to keep things in perspective.

three. desktop wallpaper
with a new year comes new ideas to get the ball rolling and to make everyday matter. i found some fun FREE desktop wallpaper designs, so that when i turn my computer on in the mornings, i have that positive motivation staring at me and getting me in gear.
four. weekly meal planning

one of my goals this year is to dive into using my new kitchen…getting back to meal planning (because it helps save so much $$$ when grocery shopping) and because i know my little family is a lot happier at night when mama has cooked dinner. and yes, that way i don’t have to think about lunch because we can have leftovers :). i shared these last year, but wanted to post again just in case others of you out there need help to get it done and get back on track!

five. weekend festivities

we are breaking out of the house…trust me, we need it. from being quarantined over the holidays, i think we (and yes, the babies included) are ready for a change of scenery. first up, mimi and i are having a girls’ day for her and i and this is LONG overdue. we are headed to lunch and then an actual afternoon movie date-i’m so excited i can hardly stand it! then, it’s off to do some shopping for the house, lunch tomorrow with some good friends, and sunday we WILL be attending church. i am saying all these things to keep myself accountable, can you tell?? i’ll be disengaging from social media posting/checking in for the weekend, and i am anxious to see how this goes for me…sadly, i get excited to see what everyone is up to throughout each day so i know i will have to keep my phone at a distance as not to tempt myself. the weekend is here friends…make it count!
you know the drill by now…link up below and visit my friends april, christina, and darci to check out their fabulous five on friday posts, too!

  17. Brownie says:

My littles have been sickly too. I am so ready to bust out of this house. As usual loved your 5 on Friday. I now have some new desktop wallpaper and Mason jar about to get some good use. Happy weekending pretty girl!

  18. Thanks for reminding me about the mason jar idea! I saw that last year and forgot to do it, lol!

  19. NapaKat says:

I adore the New Year's Mason Jar idea, such a fun way to remember things we shared (rather than just me digging back through journals).

  20. One of my teacher friends gave me a really cute mason jar with "BLESSINGS" on it in glitter writing for Christmas. Inside she put a pack of sticky notes and pen so that we can keep track of our blessings throughout the year…just like your "good cheer." I think it will be a really good project.

I definitely also need to get on meal planning this year!
