If there is one question I am asked more than any other, it’s what products do I use on my hair and how do I curl it?? So, I’ve done a few hair Q&A’s in the past, but some of my favorites have changed, so I thought it would be fun to do an updated take on everything hair-related…
What shampoo and conditioner do I use?? As of a few months ago, I started using the MONAT system of products… I was hesitant to switch up my normal routine, but I love to test out the latest and greatest so I gave it a go and have been super impressed with how much it’s strengthened my color-treated strands and helped to say adios to split ends as well [I use the Revive Shampoo and Revitalize Conditioner. It’s a bit different in how you use the system as you shampoo your hair twice [this video explains more]. The conditioner is super rich and has definitely helped my thick, coarse hair from drying out this summer. **Looking for more info?? Reach out to Amy with MONAT for all the details on how to order**
My hair also has a tendency to turn “gold” about 4-5 weeks post highlighting/balayage, so that’s when I bring out the Clairol Shimmer Lights Shampoo and Conditioner. It’s purple, so don’t let the color scare you, but it removed the brassiness between colorings and it REALLY helps. Just trust me on this one 😉
Any other products you like?? I don’t use too many styling products on my hair, as it tends to look greasy/oily on my blonde locks, but I have a few goodies that I use in small doses that really seem to work well!
First up, anything from Kevin Murphy is always a favorite… I use this Dry Cleaning Spray, which is an AMAZING dry shampoo for day 2 styling, and this Session Spray is one that actually holds curls = a necessity for us southern girls. I also use a few products in the summertime to combat the sun and humidity, including these from Aveda – the After Sun Hair Masque and the Smooth Infusion Style Prep.
Then there is the Monat Rejuvabeads Split End Mender… it helps repair damaged ends and it only take a tiny bit to work its magic [here is a helpful video to learn more] or learn more about the Monat products here.
OK, so how do you curl your hair?? Now, in terms of styling my mane, here is the rundown… first of all, as soon as I exit the shower, I towel dry my hair as best I can, as my hair tends to hold onto water so it helps save time on blowdrying. I use this Kevin Murphy Comb to get out any tangles and then section my strands off with these clips since I have SO MUCH hair. Then comes my brand new OH SO AMAZING T3 Featherweight 2 Hair Dryer… yes, I was a little reluctant to “invest” in a pricey model, but I am so glad I did. My drying time has been cut in half and it’s definitely paying off so it’s a worthy beauty must-have. I use this Phillips Ceramic MR Brush, which helps me take out the wavy-ness and then I switch it up between my Hot Tools Nano 1.25″ Curling Iron and the new Beachwaver Pro 1.25 Rotating Curling Iron that does the work for me [yes, you read that correctly].
And of course I couldn’t leave you hanging without a helpful video tutorial, so I hope this answers your long-awaited questions about all things hair care.
