It’s been almost three weeks since we returned from our most recent getaway to Turks and Caicos and I’m not going to lie… I’m already itching to book another trip for the family ASAP. Not only was it one of our most favorite spring break trips to date, but the fact that we really got to relax and unwind was icing on the cake. I think every single one of us needed some extra sleep [afternoon naps included] as well as good food and even better company!
So let’s get right down to it… the full play-by-play of our time in Turks and Caicos! Hope this helps for any of you out there heading south for some sun, surf, sand and sea anytime soon.
Where to Stay
Given the fact we were going for an entire week and had a party of nine to accommodate, we went the house rental route and it exceeded every single expectation for sure! Jeff scoured the internet for hours and hours trying to find the perfect house for all of us and let me tell you, he won the VIP travel agent award for finding this gem. Villa Moonshadow was absolutely amazing in every way = plenty of space for all of us with lots of big bedrooms (5 total), ample bathrooms (4 spacious baths), an open layout ideal for entertaining and of course wide windows for letting in all that beautiful nature light and views of the ocean! And yes, the upper pool + deck area was a HUGE hit with the kids and adults alike. And the two outdoor spaces made it ideal for spending all our time taking in the sights + sounds of T+C. We loved that it was situated on the quiet side of Providenciales so very quiet and relaxed with a short three-minute walk to Taylor Bay, the picturesque beach with public access in a hidden lagoon.
++On the other hand, When Jeff and I went to Turks back in 2018, we stayed at the Wymara Resort… a completely different, more modern + luxe setup and great for adults = absolutely loved both for different reasons with lots of restaurants on site and fun night-life, but wanted to add this as another option for consideration, too!
Where to Eat
Seafood lovers… you’re in for a treat when it comes to Turks + Caicos cuisine. So much fresh fish + conch, lobster and more = just get ready to eat it all and get adventurous with your orders! Afterall, you’re on vacation. My best advice is to order a variety of options so the entire table can enjoy 😉
Da Conch Shack | One of my top recs hands down = it’s a must!! Right next to the ocean, it’s a local love for sure… outdoor dining with a laidback vibe everyone will enjoy, you’ve got to get the fried conch fritters and the conch ceviche = so many treasures to taste and the ambiance makes it even more special
Coco Bistro | Looking for a date night spot?? This is my #1 recommendation by far. We’ve gone here twice and I’ll be back on my nest trip too. Perfect for dinner = open air dining with lots of menu must-tries… just be sure to snag a reservation way in advance!
Infinity Bar at Grace Bay | Another world famous hotspot that everyone will talk about for years to come, it’s a restaurant + raw bar with top-tier gourmet food and drink. Contemporary flair on the fare but perfect for families to dine at as well, it’s got the best views of Grace Bay with lots of island charm…
Other Top Recommendations
Somewhere Cafe + Lounge | Another fantastic spot for lunch with its quaint vibe and local fresh catch that changes daily on the menu, it’s beachfront on Grace Bay with Mexican cuisine that’s DELISH
Cocovan |One more dining option [available for lunch or dinner], it’s the extension of Coco Bistro featuring walk-up-and-order service served from an airstream van!!
What to Do
First of all, take my personal advice and don’t overbook your vacation. Afterall, it’s a time to relax and catch up on family time, take a break from the daily hustle + bustle and just be… all while enjoying island life! But if you’re like us and want some fun while you’re visiting, here are a few must-do’s:
Private Boat Charters | for Jeff’s bday, we booked a full-day boat excursion with Caicos Island Charters = i cannot say enough great things about this experience… so much fun for every age, too!!! Snorkeling in deep water, heading to iguana island for exploring, an on-board catered lunch that was delish and then finishing the day with a private sandbar/island visit!
Taylor Bay | one of our favorite beaches to visit on the island = just two minutes to this scenic cove from the house, it offers calm and shallow water, making it an excellent beach to visit with children [bring your own chairs, umbrellas and towels]
Jet Skis and Jet Boats | looking for more fast-paced fun??? rent jet skis for the day or hourly and head to the shipwreck + crystal clear waters of the T+ C islands to explore the day!
Extra Info + Things to Note
My ONE regret about the entre trip is not booking the expedited Caribbean SkyPass for VIP airport services. We normally do this when we travel to Europe with the family and always have a fantastic experience = honestly, we just didn’t realize we would need it in Turks + Caicos. Basically, their airport is tiny and during the rush of Spring Break, their staff/security/TSA just couldn’t keep up with the amount of people coming and going. I assure you we won’t make that mistake again.
Other than that one slight hiccup, I wouldn’t change anything about our trip… from beginning to end, it exceeded our expectations [as well as the kids] and I highly recommend taking your kids there!! I’ve also created a printable [and easy to save image below] that you can bookmark and hope it helps you when you decide it’s time to visit the islands… hopefully sooner rather than later!
