It may have been a month since we returned from our family fun getaway to one of our favorite southern cities, but it doesn’t mean we can’t look back on all the memories we made, right!?!?! It’s a lot like Charleston with plenty of coastal charm + gorgeous scenery scattered throughout and the food scene is just as incredible I assure you, so let’s take a little visit to our most recent family fun travel adventure, otherwise known as Savannah, Georgia…
Lucky for us, our dance studio selected Savannah as the destination for this year’s national dance competition to wrap up our season and our little foursome was THRILLED with the location. Super easy to get to [whether by driving OR by plane], lots of fun things to do [beach, city attractions, etc] and of course all the extra time we had made it all the more special as a way to take in the town on our off days as well.
Can we please hit rewind and do it all over again??? Because there is just something about dance nationals that fills your cup in every possible way. Equal parts exciting, exhausting, emotional, and unforgettable, our week in Savannah was one for the memory books. After months of rehearsals, competitions, costumes, late nights, early mornings and countless hours spent in the studio, it was finally time for the girls to take the stage at Nationals. And let me tell you—there is absolutely nothing sweeter than watching your children do what they love and seeing all of their hard work come to life.
If you’re headed to Savannah anytime soon, I’m sharing our favorite restaurants, things to do, and a little recap of our week at Nationals!
Day 1 | Travel Day
We kicked off our trip bright and early with a flight from Nashville to Savannah. After arriving and getting settled into our amazing hotel = the JW Marriott Plant Riverside, we spent the afternoon exploring and soaking up our first glimpses of the city. We stopped at the iconic Leopold’s Ice Cream for a sweet treat to cool things off and of course scoop up something special. For a late lunch, we headed to Savannah Tequila Company with a ton of friends to officially kick off the week. It was the perfect first-day and gave us a chance to relax before the busy week ahead.
Day 2 | Carson’s 13th Birthday
One of the most special days of the entire trip was celebrating Carson’s 13th birthday. Funny enough, her birthday always seems to fall on Nationals week so it’s the perfect way to get to share in the fun with dance friends!! That day, we decided to take it easy and stay at the hotel for some much needed fun in the sun with a poolside cabana, swimming and getting their tan on… that evening, we celebrated Carson with our family and her bestie at The Grove and then walked through the historic streets of Savannah before calling it a night!
Days 3 to 6 | The Dance Competition
The next few days were fast and very furious because we switched gears to the main event… dance nationals!! It’s always bittersweet = the last time you’re seeing favorite dances on stage, celebrating a year’s worth of hard work + growth and of course lots of fun memories with teammates, parents and our mentors, too. Suffice to say there were loads of happy tears, lots of awards and big wins for both of my babies’ teams and our studio bringing home lots of bling!!
Never you worry though: a little work, a lot of play! We definitely found some free time to enjoy some other great parts of Savannah and the historic culture: Coastal 15 for a late night dinner, The Olde Pink House with a ton of our friends to cap off the week… and of course we finished out the week with a bang and enjoyed my favorite place: Darling Oyster Bar.
The most fun getaway in a place that just feels like home… getting lost in the quaint downtown under the live oaks, strolling through the squares in search of some retail therapy of course and grabbing early coffee along the riverside when the ships are coming in and out = it is one of our favorite places in the south!!
