Well hey there friends… summer is ALMOST officially here! This week has marked the end of our school year for the girls and I am SUPER thankful–like I mentioned the other day, home schooling has been such a challenge for all of us, especially given the fact both parents have been working from home and we’ve all had to adapt our schedules to get at least a few hours of work accomplished everyday. Having said that, bring on summer and all things fun in the sun, which brings me to today’s post topic about sun protection products.
Summertime Sun Protection Products
Mimi will be thrilled to see this post as it seems her lifelong advice of applying sunscreen repeatedly has finally paid off and I listened to the ultimate boss who knows her skin stuff. If you’re like us, our summer revolves around all things outdoor… days on the boat, lounging at the beach, diving into the pool, playing outside and countless other activities so we can catch some rays.
My mom was always adamant about sunscreen and I am even more thankful for that motto now as I try to pass on that protection to my girls! I feel like I’ve become a sunscreen aficionado and so I wanted to round up all the essentials to help keep you safe all summer long and offer up five benefits of using sunscreen each + everyday:
SPF Essentials For the Face
iT Cosmetics SPF 50 CC Cream | I’ll share this miracle worker until I am blue in the face if it gets people to discover the goodness that is this full coverage CC cream. If you see me on the daily, this is what I am wearing as my base/foundation. I love the coverage + concealing component [I wear shade Light/Medium for reference] and the fact that it has SPF in this liquid formula gets an A+ in my makeup book! Be sure to snag this Heavenly Skin Brush to apply.
Supergoop Invincible Setting Powder | This has been in my sunscreen bag for years now and it comes in handy every single time! This translucent mineral setting powder helps to set your makeup but also mattes your face = working double duty for sure. I brush it on top of my CC cream and along the hair line + part as that is a place that I often get burnt if I’m not paying close attention. You can get the tinted version of this powder as well, but a little goes a long way and 1 bottle usually lasts me through the summer.
Supergoop Shimmershade | I first found this product last spring when it launched and I couldn’t wait to test the goods. It reminds me of my MAC Paint Pot which acts as my eyeshadow primer, but this features SPF 30 in a creamy eyeshadow formula. I use this brush to apply and love the subtle hint of shimmer it gives to your lids as well.
Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Stick | Hands down THE BEST facial stick for kids… so good my girls don’t mind applying it themselves which makes this a must-have in my mama book. We’ve been using the BC sunscreen sticks for years–they last forever, apply easily, and contains zinc oxide for super sun protection, even in the water! So good I buy two at a time, one for my pool tote and one to keep lakeside.
Supergoop Zincscreen 100% Mineral SPF 40 Lotion | Ready for all the zinc oxide lotion protection?? This one protects from harmful blue light and pollution for added good measure. It has a pink tint that is perfect for blending under makeup and is great for you oily and sensitive ladies!
Sun Bum Pomegranate Lip Balm | If you’re like me, it’s easy to forget SPF coverage for your lippies. This easy to toss in your bag lip balm has the perfect summer taste and protects your pout from sun AND wind damage. It also soothes dry lips and is made of cocoa butter for the ultimate in hydration. A steal on a 3-pack for just $11–one for Carson, Caroline and me!

Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 | When it comes to clean beauty, everyone knows BC is where its at. Their sunscreen is actually what sold me to become a Beautycounter rep after years of swearing by their sun protection products. Their Countersun line is a mineral sunscreen lotion that is a winner for adults + kids alike because of it’s water resistant formula. It’s lightweight and shields from both UVA and UVB rays with minimal white residue. I’m trying to integrate more clean beauty and this is how I’m doing just that!
Sun Bum Spray Sunscreen | If you’re looking for a summer scent in a sunscreen, this is it!! It’s oil free and water resistant and my everyday spray that is packed with vitamin E. For all you sensitive skin friends, it’s hypoallergenic, too.
Supergoop Superscreen Daily SPF Moisturizer | A new revelation to me, I scooped this up a few weeks ago when I stumbled upon it online and instantly fell in love. A daily lotion that has SPF already in it?!?!? YES PLEASE. I love that it works double duty and has a clean, fresh scent with SPF 30 protection.
Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Mist | I love a spray… especially when I’m at the beach because this gal despises getting all sandy with suncreen lotion so the mist is my jam!! Another clean beauty fav from BC, this SPF 30 is easy peasy to apply and perfect for defending your skin against UVA and UVB rays as well. A definite must for any mama on the go.
After Sun Must-Haves
Moroccan Oil After Sun Milk Body Lotion | A newish find for this beauty obsessed gal, this milky lotion is a win when you’re trying to moisturize after being out in the sun! I love the non-greasy formula and the coconut scent has me itching for pina coladas and warm weather ASAP.
Sun Bum Cool Down Spray | I hate to admit it, but I’ve had my fair share of sunburns and this is my favorite way to cool the skin when you’re a little red. Aloe vera is essential for soothing and helps to prevent peeling afterwards. Keep your skin hydrated and moisturized to prevent extra pain, too.
What are some of your favorite sun protection products? Let me know in a comment below!
Hi, Natasha! You are my most favorite gal to follow on Instagram, and I love your blog, too!:) Yesterday, I bought the collagen you recommended, but I went with Skin…I’m 47 years old and was hoping it would help my fine lines more!:):):) I’m super excited to give it a try! I just watched your story on how you make your coffee, and I saw you include 1 tbsp. of collagen. When I was reading about the product, it says take one or two tbsp/day. Do you take just the one in the morning, or do you take one in the evening too? Thanks so much, and I hope you have a wonderful day! Laura Schewe
Hi Laura!!! Hope you love the collagen as much as I do… I take one in the morning and one before dinner–that way it stays in my system over 24 hours to keep its potency–hope that helps!!!! have a great day 🙂
