Fashionable Friday…Maternity Staples

Uncategorized

September 30, 2011

Let’s face it…I’ve already come to grips that some of this season’s trendiest pieces won’t be gracing my closet anytime soon {no suede platforms, no tight fitting coats, no form fitting cocktail dresses for parties}, for I must accomodate the ever growing bumpage, though I have to admit, I have been searching high and low for cute maternity fashion that won’t break the bank. And yes, Jeff is fully aware that with the holidays and trips coming up, I want to look good, too, so with that comes some major expenditure.  Here are some of my first purchases thus far:

Supersoft Crewneck Top via Gap
Long-Sleeve V Neck Shirts via Motherhood
Shawl Collar Cardigan via Motherhood
Sexy Boot Jeans (bought both demi and full panels) via Gap
Full Length Grey Skirt via Motherhood
Dolman Sleeve T via Gap
Jersey Knit Legging via Motherhood
Long Sleeve Cable Knit Cardigan via Motherhood
I’ve also got my eyes ready to take a trip to A Pea in the Pod for some other necessities, as well as online shopping at Loft and Old Navy, too! For all you other mommies-to-be and mothers out there, where were your favorite shops for stocking up on maternity pieces? I’m looking for any and all help in this area PLEASE 😉
  1. I'm not pregnant & haven't been yet, BUT I do know that ASOS online has a maternity section and they're stuff is really cute! They don't have a lot of items, but I did notice they have some cute dresses that would be good for a shower or event? And they're not super pricey! I hope this is not weird coming from someone who is not pregnant? LOL What can I say…I like to shop! 🙂

  2. It is so weird for me to picture you wearing these! I'm excited to see that little baby bump grow! You're going to look so cute!

  3. Kate says:

So I was at Forever 21 and I came across a super cute pair of yoga pants and a tank top… Tried it on. Stood in front of the mirror staring at myself thinking "what the hell" — this tank top was SO long and the yoga pants? They had this weird panel in the front that I tried to fold down, but it still didn't look right. Um, yeah. I had on MATERNITY clothes! Oh my. The point of my story is that Forever 21 sells maternity and it's so super cute that I mistook it for 'normal' clothing. Hahaha!!! Woops 🙂 Maybe your closest Forever carries the line also!

  4. You have got to go to Motherhood Maternity and get skinny jeans and pants and leggings. They are SO flattering on pregnant women. I felt the prettiest in those. Also, I recommend the pants that do NOT have the long stretchy part that pulls up over your belly. You can see the seam through your shirts! I liked the low-rise with the stretchy band. Old Navy had ones that I loved. I had the cutest cordoruy maternity pants that I wore all of fall and winter from Old Navy.

Also, sometimes I felt like maternity clothes were marked up higher in price bc they were maternity. So many non-maternity clothes work for pregnant women. I really only purchased a few staples and still wore lots of non-maternity items.

Also, I highly recommend any of the Liz Lange clothing at Target. Super comfy and affordable!

I am bringing my clothes to Leslie in Nov. so hopefully you can borrow some of them from her too!

I didn't want to invest too much money in my maternity wardrobe because I knew I'd only wear it for a limited time and I really didn't feel cute in anything, so why spend the money. Plus, it was much more fun to shop for baby clothes. (Which I wayyy over did, learn from my mistake and resist the urge to buy 100 things for the bambino. Blaire will never be able to wear it all.)

Most of my maternity clothes came from Gap, Old Navy and Motherhood Maternity. I loved Gap's jeans and their black pants for work. Old Navy had great basic dresses and tanks for layering. I found cute dresses for work and weekends at Motherhood Maternity. I found some cute things at Pea in the Pod but found it to be overpriced for pretty poor quality clothes. AT Loft has some cute things. Also a little pricey for maternity clothes but they run 40% off sales pretty regularly. Nordstrom also has some cute things. Good luck!

  6. Everything is so cute! Target has great button down boyfriend cardi's right now that are great paired with leggings. Mine is gray with black stripes.

My favorite jeans were from Motherhood and were cheap and just long enough.

    Tees from Motherhood for sure.

I bought a Maternity slip at a local boutique and it's by Ripe Maternity. It's the BEST thing to wear under dresses. Mine is dark taupe and looks great peeping through low cut dresses. Invest in a few great dresses!

  7. You've picked some really cute things so far! I know what you mean about missing out on all the Fall and Winter trends, but honestly it will be SO worth it! Our clothing "playing field" has definitely been narrowed.

I've bought a lot of maternity clothes in the last 5 months. I mostly shop at Motherhood because the have the widest selection and the prices are good. I buy t's at Gap, and I always check out Target's maternity section when I'm there.

I've also heard the HM maternity clothes are cute. My favorite thing to do it pair leggings, regular dresses and flats. Most of my empire waist dresses still fit but are a bit shorter because of the growing bump, so the leggings make up for the difference.

You are going to be the most adorable pregnant lady!

  8. Jen says:

Check out local tot swaps in your areas. You can get great deals on new or barely worn maternity clothes. Also old navy has affordable stuff!

  9. Kristen says:

you got some really cute stuff! so far i've had the best luck at the gap. i got the same bootcut jeans, a pair of skinny jeans and a pair trousers. i LOVE their pure body tanks & tees…so soft and flattering.

i've found a few things at pea in the pod but it is definitely overpriced and not the best quality-shop the sale racks!

i also found that non-maternity cardigans are awesome. just put a tank or tee underneath and a belt above the belly…looks super cute with leggings or skinnies. can't wait to see that baby bump grow! 🙂

  10. I actually got a cute top or two online at Target. It got complimented all the time and looked designer and was $14.99 – ha! The selection in the stores is not great, but they have more online and you can return whatever you order to a store so it's easy.

  11. Mrs. Winston says:

I agree…I had the best luck at the Gap. I think you will find that some of your non-maternity tops and dresses fit for a long time. Get some cute maternity tanks to wear with your non-maternity cardigans. Just I warning though, now that I wore some of my things when I was pregnant…I don't want to wear them now.

Also, when I found something I liked that wasn't maternity, I bought up a size and that worked really well until the last trimester. I'd also recommend the full panel maternity pants. I know they seem ridiculous now, but that demi panel doesn't feel so good when you are 32 weeks pregnant.

I also agree that Pea in the Pod was very overpriced and really poor quality.

  13. The Mauney's says:

For great deals, try eBay. Search "maternity lot small" (because I'm guessing you're a size small) and bundles of clothes will pop up. I got about 20 pieces for under $200… pants, skirts, tops, and dresses. Granted, it's hit or miss, so I probably gave away about 5 things that I didn't really like or didn't fit out of the 20, but it was still a great deal and so much cheaper than purchasing the items individually. I invested more in tops and wore the same few pairs of pants over and over again.

I'd also recommend having a few pairs of full panel pants. The elastic bands are fine early on, but late in the game they can start to dig into your skin under your belly a bit. Plus, they're super warm in the winter!

  14. Dacey says:

Wow!These clothes are awesome and i think these are the wonderful that i ever saw.

  15. tylerjones says:

Those are some really chic clothes.
I am so glad that I came across this one!
