ONE. DIY Project Complete

Yes, I FINALLY finished Caroline’s IKEA Chalkboard Table and Chair set gifted to her by her Aunt Bev. It took me awhile, but it turned out really cute (if I say so myself) and I love the finished product…and yes, Miss CC does too. She is constantly working on her computer, stacking blocks, getting ready in front of her mirror, and climbing up and down the chair. It’s a BIG hit in our house. Yes, this is a horrible picture, but you get the idea 😉

FYI: I used Montana Gold spray paint in Bazooka Joe for the chairs and Wall for the table; chalkboard paint for the tabletop is by Martha Stewart

TWO. Mother’s Day Out

I used to laugh at those moms out there who totally got hysterical when it came to send their kiddos off to school…how they would say they were crying in the car after they dropped them off. Ummm..now I am TOTALLY eating my words ladies! I will be that person next Friday when CC starts Mother’s Day Out. I am ecstatic she has the opportunity to go and mingle and learn with other wee ones her age, but I know the sentimental part of me will die a bit inside knowing she is growing up way too fast and she will have her first taste of being an independent little person. She will go two days a week, and I know this will be a great experience for all of us…of course, we had to stock up on some “essentials” to send her to school in style…
THREE. Ouch! That Hurt
I have vowed to start switching up my normal workouts in exchange for classes at the gym… on Wednesday, I went to a kickboxing class at my YMCA and thought I was going to pass out by the time it was over…60 minutes of pure torture I tell you! It was one of the best classes and the instructor was probably an army drill sergeant in her former life because she was intense (shout out to Andrea!). What are some of your go-to classes?? I’m all ears and open to trying some of that crazy Crossfit stuff, too.

FOUR. Menu Planning

As much as I hate to admit it, menu planning really does work…last week, I made a schedule of weekly dinner options and then displayed it on the fridge once I stocked up on all the ingredients at the grocery. I held myself to it and have followed our menus perfectly all week…do I get a star sticker or something? Hoping this can help us save money since I will be buying food for actual meals, rather than just stuff I hope we end up eating :).

P.S. Check out this adorable weekly menu planner printable via Kissen Studio
FIVE. Dr. Smith’s to the Rescue

Whenever I find a product that works, I like to pay it forward to others out there who might be in need…now or later. This past week, we had an emergency of sorts in diaper land when Carson got her first diaper rash…poor little thing. We had used another kind of diapers from what we usually use, and that’s where we went wrong apparently as I have now realized someone has a sensitive tush. I normally use Mustela Stelactiv cream, but of course we ran out and I had to order immediately. To use until then, I tried Butt Paste (AWFUL!), A&D (not strong enough), and then found Dr. Smith’s Diaper Rash Ointment, which I had heard worked wonders. THANK HEAVENS for this product!! Now my girl is back to her happy little self.

If that’s not a random hodge podge post, I don’t know what is…but that is what Five on Friday is all about!! Head on over to my friends’ blogs to see what fun things they are talking about this week…Darci, Christina, and April and be sure to post your link up below.

  1. Paige says:

The ikea table looks so great! And maybe if I used a cute meal planner like that one I'd actually stick to it!

  2. Katie says:

I've been trying to think of a Christmas gift idea (yes, in August– I do not even know who I am!) for my niece and nephew and that little chair and chalkboard table set is just too cute! I love a good craft project, so that's right down my alley.

As for the gym, I'm training for a marathon right now and MAKE myself take classes to change things up or I'd run myself to boredom! I'm loving Spin and barre classes are fabulous. There isn't a Pure Barre close enough to me to make it worth the commute, but there are several other private studios that offer the same types of classes and WHEW is it a workout! I've worked muscles I didn't know I even had…

  3. Brooke says:

I love that menu planning printable. Just printed it, thanks for the link!

  4. Lauren says:

    OOO. Love that printable!

  5. Caitlin says:

Montana spray paint is the BEST! I got married in early May and did a ton of DIY and used several cans of that stuff- and best of all, it comes in every color ever!!

  6. Carroll says:

Meal planning is so amazing! The hubs and I just did ours this upcoming week and I feel so ready to enjoy the weekend. 🙂 Love your cute chalkboard table, too! Thanks for hosting this fun linkup. 🙂

  7. Okay that table is adorable, friend! I know she is loving it so very much (heck, I would too!) 🙂

  8. Jenny says:

I use Emeals for planning. It's takes the stress of all that out. And it's adaptable so we can skip a meal or add in a Pinterest find. They even have an app.

  9. I can't believe CC is already heading to MDO! How exciting! Hopefully you can distract yourself with cute first day essentials, printables, etc. to get you through that first drop off.

I have to attend the classes at the Y to push myself. I find I'll slack if I don't have an instructor to keep me going for a full hour. My favorite classes are dance related (which is hilarious because I am terribly uncoordinated) – Cardio Funk, Hip-Hop Dance, etc. Go YOU for kickboxing! Now that just sounds scary to me!!!

I really need to start menu planning. Even though it's just two of us, I feel like I end up making eggs for dinner 3x a week if I don't plan ahead!

    Happy weekend, friend!!

  10. oh my gosh. caroline is just too cute for words. does it break your heart that she's looking more like a toddler and less like a baby?

  11. Omg, I meed that chalkboard table for Chloe! And I need to start menu planning too, it makes shopping a lot easier!

  12. I love taking Athletic Training at my gym (a cross training class) and the TRX class of course! Super sore every week after each one.

Your table looks darling, but I have to WARN you about those chairs. Don't let an adult sit in them!! "Someone" I know who, but don't want to call them out, sat on them and RUINED one of the chairs I worked so hard on 🙁 So sad.

  13. Tess says:

Menu planning has honestly become my best friend. Not only does it keep Joel and I eating a lot healthier, I find myself trying and experimenting with new recipe's and saving money. All around win's in my book!!

  14. Jen Gordon says:

I really want to take a kickboxing class but I am so scared that I will have to leave not even half way through because it's too intense lol! sometimes new classes can be so intimidating! & I love Caroline's table! adorable!

  15. Erinn C.D. says:

I love that printable! So much so that I put it into my 5 for Friday as well. I was telling my husband last night that we need to be better at meal planning so I'm really happy you shared this download.

We just joined a gym and so far I'm loving group power. It's a 60 minute weight lifting class and you can pick your own weights to fit whatever your fitness goals are or whever you feel like your body is at that day. I want to take more but my crazy schedule is getting in the way at the moment.

  16. SO GLAD to hear that diaper cream worked well for Carson…. poor girl — hate it when they're in pain like that {I can remember those days w/ J!}.

Jackson has the same PBK food containers for his lunch box along w/ a Bento box (I think that's what it's called) that's metal from there. I've been really happy with them!

I cannot wait to see CC on her first day! You'll have to check out the free "first day of school" printables I shared a link to today. I'm hoping that the sweet designer will add a "first day of mother's day out"! I emailed her to ask and offered to pay, so we'll see!! I'll send it your way if so. 🙂

Lastly, friend… we need to be neighbors so you can drag my ass to the gym.

    Happy weekend, my dear! 🙂

  17. PS – two things I know for sure…

1.) J and CC will be the cutest couple on their wedding day. 😉 😉
2.) We need a photo of both of them sitting at their tables "working" on their computers! Haha!

  18. Love the chalkboard table, my nieces would love a project table like that. You should try a bodypump or turbo kick class if your gym offers it, both are really good workouts.

  19. Sara says:

Love that chalkboard table. What an awesome project. I need to make something like that for our basement so Mac has somewhere to sit and play this winter when it's too nasty to go outside (that is if he can manage to sit for more than 30 seconds).

  20. I have been contemplating the same switch up at my gym..just don't know where to start..so I will just climb the stair master until then haha 🙂 Happy Friday!

  21. Natalie says:

We have that same Ikea table and love it in our playroom! I painted ours a light blue color and contemplated doing chalkboard on the top, but decided not to since we have another chalkboard. Yours turned out so cute-great job!

  22. I feel the same way about menu planning. It works, it saves you money, and you're not staring into your fridge wondering what to make for dinner!

  23. Lori Capel says:

CrossFit, CrossFit, CrossFit! Find the right box with the right coach, and you'll never turn back!

  24. Yes, I totally swear by meal planning! Not only does it make cooking easier, but going grocery shopping is now a breeze! Especially with a little one in tow 🙂

  25. Kelly Z says:

I keep saying I need to do meal planning!

For workouts, I mix it up with Yoga (regular & hot), spin, Zumba, and Body Works plus Abs (which is a weight lifting class at LA Fitness).
