a tween boudoir design | caroline’s room refresh

home and food

September 2, 2022

a girl and her pup 😉

It’s been more than a year since I first shared our plans to do a little room refresh on Caroline’s boudoir [see that initial inspiration post here], but now it’s FINALLY finished and I am absolutely delighted to share the final product with you here on the blog today.

Our darling, oh so sweet, softly spoken Tuttie wished for something a bit more mature since she had her current room design for almost 7 years and she was super patient to wait on everything we hand picked so it suited her style, color preferences and her vision on how she wanted her room to look. Very particular that one is and I love how well she knows herself ;).

Want to see what it started out as?? Her first room design was executed back in 2015 with our designer at the time, Kendall Simmons, and it was one of the first spaces we redid in our home. Lots of pretty pink throughout and adorable accents as well, but it was time for an upgrade and my little artist got exactly what she wanted. Plus, it’s been an ongoing project we got to work on together which was my favorite aspect of the entire process. So go on and have a little peek:

the bedroom

One of the details Caroline was super concerned about keeping were these matching Darling I Love You wooden canvases from Sugarboo Designs. These have been something we both fell in love with years ago and a great reminder of how much she is loved when she goes to sleep each night. As for substantial abstract art on the opposite wall, my little creative got together with our dear friend Kelly Terrell Art for a custom commission unlike none other. They worked their magic, got down and dirty and painted this one-of-a-kind masterpiece I know she will treasure forever. It exudes cheer and good thoughts and I love how unique it is = just like our princess.

Art for a kid’s space can be overwhelming in some regards… you don’t want something too “themey” or a piece that they will outgrow easily so that’s why we’ve incorporated both prints and original art into her bedroom in a variety of styles. With gorgeousness from Britt Atkinson Art + Kristina Akers as well as abstract prints from Minted, it’s eclectic and vibrant and perfectly suited for my tween!

As for lighting, you know I had to go BIG and BOLD and that’s where Stray Dog Designs came into play! They continue to serve as my go-to brand for everything colorful + funky + fun and I LOVE that they are a local brand based in Tennessee. This Landon Chandelier in Stray Dog Pink is the statement ceiling light we needed and of course my little lady picked it because it’s her favorite hue!

Moving onto the bedding, otherwise known as what I was most excited to change out. That’s where my dear friends at Peacock Alley stepped up in a big way and made an entire in-store shopping experience happen for my girl and I. We literally went through every type of coverlet + pillow style in their Nashville design center, looked through threading colors for sheets and personalization specifics and ended up with a full story of beautiful watercolor florals and pretty pink accents to tie it all together that’s not only beautiful, but functional and oh so soft as well.

And the icing on top?? They can embroider something onto your sheets and/or pillowcase which was a little surprise I did for Caroline. Every night before bed, we say “I love you the most, forever and always” so I had “forever and always” added to each of her pillow shams for a subtle special hint that’s just for her to enjoy.

Onto the sitting space, this Coco Chair from Mitchell Gold Bob Williams was an instant YES when we saw it in store. The soft and chic boucle fabrication is a great nod to yesteryear with its texture and the soft white palette is a neutral to love and layer up with some fun textiles, too. And of course the brass detail legs make it a bit more sophisticated! We then added in this adorable orange + purple fringe ottoman [a Target steal for $120] paired with this Net Stool in Pumpkin Blush.

Ready to see more of the good stuff?? Otherwise known as the decorative accents and details that tie a room together and make it memorable. Thank goodness for Chelsea and always going above and beyond with her photography skills so you don’t miss one ounce of the finished product, because it’s all just that dang good! We were able to incorporate many of the accessories that were already in Caroline’s room, but my thinking was to grab a few bold books + ceramic frames and vases and other goodies to brighten things up even more.

the bathroom

This space didn’t change much except for adding in some new decorative accents on her vanity, but it’s still one of my favorite bathrooms in the house because of the bold wallpaper in black and white with the gorgeous teal vanity paint and the light blue penny tile floor. Classic details but updated in new colorways to make it POP!

So there you have it… I am SO darn proud of what Caroline and I did with her beautiful bedroom design! No more neutrals y’all. Take a chance, match your personality and bring in some fun + flavor into your spaces and I promise you’ll be glad you did because it’ll stand out from everyone else. I hope you enjoyed this look into our cutie’s updated bedroom and I’ve included all the sources for every detail below:
